Hauling Out…Jilly’s Nightmare

I woke up this morning with butterflies in my stomach. I always hate it when the time comes for us to haul out. There’s just something so unnerving about watching your 32,000 lb boat swinging above the ground. And then there’s the getting on it while it’s up there close to eleven feet off the ground when it doesn’t move at all. It’s just not normal and it’s freaks me out a bit. And….it’s raining! So I said, “Well I guess we won’t be hauling out today.” Dan asked, “Why?” I said, “It’s raining!” He just laughed!

I guess I was hoping beyond hope that it would be delayed but alas I’ve got to face my fears. I swear this is worse than traveling across the ocean for me. And this time we will be living on it while she’s on the hard. That’s a whole new adventure for me. For those of you who don’t know or hadn’t thought of what that means, let me tell you.

Aside from the fact that I HATE being on a boat that doesn’t move, we will not be able to use the water or head. Yep. That means we have to get on and off the boat each and every time Nature calls. The yard has facilities with showers, laundry etc, but who wants to climb down a ladder and walk across a yard every time? Well, I guess we’re going to see how good of a sailor chick Jilly really is throughout out this.

The good news is we will be gone most of the time Dazzler is hauled out. We’re taking a three week trip around the South Island with friends coming in from Los Angeles and then we’ll also be taking month to go back to the states and visit our families. At least I’ve got all that to look forward and it means we’ll only be living on Dazzler in this condition for a couple of weeks…three at the outside. I guess I can do anything for a few weeks.

Here’s a quick video of our haul out. All went well and I’m working on getting used to living this way! CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO
