Marinas & Boatyards In Whangerie, New Zealand

Here are the boatyards and marinas we’ve utilized during our stay here in New Zealand. To learn more about each business click on their logo to the left of their listing and you will be directed to their company website.

During our stay here we’ve spent most of our time at the Whangerie Marina. Some refer to it as the Town Basin Marina because of it’s location. This marina is very convenient to everything here in Whangerie. It’s within walking distance of shopping, restaurants and just about anything you could need. The staff is amazing and every once in a while you get a nice fireworks show from the nearby stadium. (Click on the photos for full size images)

The fires in Australia in 2019 brought red skies to Whangerie one afternoon.

We hauled out here twice and lived on board both times. The facilities may not be the fanciest but the people more than make up for that. Nick and Brenda, the owners, bent over backwards to make our stay a great one and we just can’t say enough wonderful things about the entire crew here. We highly recommend them!

Marsden Cove is the next point of entry south of Opua. We’ve checked in and out of the country here every time and it’s always been a breeze. Here in New Zealand you cannot clean the bottom of your boat unless you go 2 miles offshore or can find one of the very scare “in water cleaning stations”. That’s not always convenient so we chose to do a haul and splash at Marsden Cove. Their lift system is awesome, the price is right and the people make it a fantastic experience.

While we haven’t actually stayed here we do have friends who love this place. It’s also the only place in the upper river that has a pump out station so we’ve been there many times. Note: There are three submerged pilings at the pump out dock. The photo below shows exactly where they are located. The arrow is there to point out the rocks. Don’t go to far in or you’ll end up on them. This is definitely a place you only want to visit at high tide!
